Are you looking for work experience as a creative workshop assistant? We are seeking friendly, outdoors-loving volunteers, to support our upcoming Nature Recording workshops for Solace.
Our Nature Sound Recording workshops allow participants to explore the nearby rural settings in the Sussex Downs, taking sound recordings of the landscape and wildlife. They will also learn how to turn a mobile device into a field recorder, and have a go at manipulating and experimenting with the sound content they have collected.

The work will feature in our interactive sound and video installation, next exhibiting at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft 25 February - 1 March, and DC1 Gallery from 28 March - 8 April.

As a workshop assistant, you will:
  • with setting up the workshop space, equipment and refreshments
  • support the workshop leaders with overseeing creative activities
  • guide participants when outdoors, and signposting to the next task set
  • have an awareness of health and safety on site and look after equipment
  • assist with the digital processes of uploading sound files from mobile devices and recorders
  • give out information during the session and collect feedback

When are the workshops?

1 Feb 2020
Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft, Lodge Hill Lane, Ditchling, Hassocks, BN6 8SP
Workshop 1: 11am - 1pm
Workshop 2: 2pm - 4pm

7 Mar 2020
DC3 Project Space, 1-5 Seaside, Eastbourne, BN22 7NA
Workshop 1: 10am - 12pm
Workshop 2: 1pm - 3pm

We are happy if you would like to volunteer for just one day, or both workshop dates. Please note that as there are 2 workshops taking place on each date, you will be required to attend both sessions on that day, supporting the workshop leaders from start to finish. Refreshments and a break allowance will be provided, and travel costs can be reimbursed.

There will be a short induction and briefing session beforehand, time to be agreed.

More about Solace:

Solace has been designed to get local families involved in more experimental art. From summer 2019 to spring 2020, it invites audiences to ask questions about our relationship with open and urban spaces, wellbeing and digital authenticity. The works created by artists Karen Tilley and Kevin Grist, also includes digital content captured by local people.

The project includes several strands: Input from local people recording nature sounds at outdoor workshops or in their own garden, 3 exhibitions of the installation in Seaford, Ditchling and Eastbourne, and Artist talks.

To get involved, please email hello@sparkedecho.org or leave us a message on 01634 540787.
