Intra Stories.
Intra Stories is our new project for young people to uncover the entertainment history in and around the Old High Street Intra, Chatham and Rochester.
From the lively theatres and cinemas to the rich music, punk and LGBTQ+ scenes, what we uncover and capture digitally will lead to the making of interactive animated hoardings and an augmented reality 'zine, launching in October 2025 during Electric Medway Festival.
Creative Director, Kevin Grist says:
Digital technology now offers new ways to engage young people with their local history. Music and theatre are great ways to draw younger generations into exploring further back. We will be looking at recent moments, as well as looking at hundreds of years ago. I’m excited to see what new and diverse stories young people will uncover during this process, adding a new take on the existing body of knowledge of Medway.”
To get involved, join us in February and April 2025, for a special series of Young Hack digital camps for 11-18 yr olds at Sun Pier House, Chatham. Get to interview local cultural figures to uncover their living memories of the area, using iPad voice recorders and 3D scanning apps, whilst analysing older digitised photo, VHS and newspaper records. What new stories will you uncover? [The dates for Young Hack are on our calendar/Link.tree etc.].
Young people have already taken part in our first round of workshops for 11-18 yr olds - Scan the Street! - during August and September 2024 - that featured 3D scanning of architecture and a story walk with historian Robert Flood. Photos of these sessions can be seen here [page link when live].
