PRINTS OF HOPE.
Prints of Hope is a two-part artwork created by Electric Medway and the community, exploring pride, hope and shared creativity.
Light-up lithophane
One part takes the form of a light-up lithophane, a thin 3D-printed panel that reveals images only when illuminated from behind. Once popular in the 19th century, lithophanes transformed delicate carvings into glowing pictures, and here the process is reimagined through contemporary digital design. Its surface carries images and forms drawn from community workshops run by Electric Medway, where participants sketched and modelled “something or someone you are proud of.” When lit, the lithophane becomes a luminous tapestry of personal stories, from abstract shapes of growing confidence to the pets that bring warmth, comfort, and companionship.
Suspended mobile
Alongside this intimate work, the original 3D models have been enlarged and reimagined as a suspended mobile.

Workshops
Over the summer our creative team delivered community workshops for people to mould their own ‘digital clay’ model on an iPad. Basing it on a personal object or person, participants learned how to 3D print their model and decorate it. Sessions offered a relaxing, nurturing environment with a chance to develop digital skills and learn together with likeminded people.
Workshops were run in August 2025 at:
Prints of Hope
Prints of Hope is part of Kent and Medway Suicide Prevention activities, coinciding with the visit of The Baton of Hope on 22 September 2025. On this day, the baton will travel through Medway, Maidstone, Canterbury and Thanet. All districts are encouraged to play a role in promoting hope, and starting the conversations around mental health and suicide in their communities.

This project is funded by the Kent and Medway Suicide Preventions' Hope Fund 2025, with partner support from Intra Community Trust, Sun Pier House, Medway Pride Fringe Festival and Medway Council.
